Dorothy Townshend or the Brown Lady is the ghost said to haunt Raynham Hall in Raynham, England. According to legend her husband Lord Townsend married the woman in 1713 and then locked her in Raynham Hall. Lord Townshen supposedly buried her in 1726 however most believe she was still alive at that time locked up in the hall where she would live the rest of her miserable years. She has been seen by residents in both the 1820s and 1926, her 1820s appearance caused all the staff to permanently leave the property, for fear they were working in a haunted house. In 1926 she was apparently seen on the oak staircase. Ten years later in 1936 two proffessional set up in Raynam Hall to see if they could get a picture of the ghost supposedly haunting the hall. During their visit they took the most famous ghost picture of all time showing the Brown Lady on the oak staircase in the main hall. Photography experts say the photograph is genuine and there is no explanation for the apparition.
