The Island of the Dolls (La Isla de las Munecas) is located south of Mexico City within a network of canals and houses thousands of 'Haunted' dolls.  


The grotesque collection began in the 1950's when a hermit named Don Julian Santana Barrera settled here. He claimed that he was haunted by the ghost of a young girl that drowned in one of the canals in the 1920's, he began placing dolls around the island to appease her restless spirit.

In 2001, he died in the same canal that the young girl had drowned in...
